Five identical figures around the top of a water basin.
It’s “Fountain with kneeling youths, designed by George Minne in 1898.
The artwork is part of the collection of MSK museum in Ghent, the same city in which the artist himself was born.
Despite the white color and the plainness of the artwork, the figure group strikes us for its expressivity: five fragile youngsters posing in a “visible silence”, totally naked.
There are many versions of it in marble and bronze and this is the only plaster model of the artwork which has survived, kept in Minne’s studio until his death.
Quick question for you: where can we find this fountain outside the MSK museum?
